How protected payments work

  1. 01

    Choose protection

Enter who you’re paying, the amount, and how long you want the payment protected.

  2. 02

    Send the payment

Only that payment enters its own onchain vault. Your wallet and everything else in it remain under your control.

  3. 03

    Release or dispute

Everything good? Release the payment early. If something goes wrong, open a dispute before the protection window ends.

  4. 04

    Settle

If there’s no dispute, the payment becomes available to the recipient after the protection window. If disputed, it stays locked until the dispute is resolved.

Your wallet and its other assets stay under your control. Only the one payment you choose to make is held in protection until it settles.

You keep control

Protection for the payment. Not custody of your wallet.

Protection

A traditional payment passes through protection before it is resolved. A crypto payment today goes straight from payment to final. Protected crypto puts protection back in between.

When there’s a dispute,the payment stays protected

The payment stays protected until the dispute is resolved.

Arbiter decision

One of two outcomes. The arbiter never receives the payment.

Original sender
Original recipient
  1. 01

    Open a dispute

If something goes wrong, dispute the payment before the protection window ends. The funds stay protected while it's reviewed.

  2. 02

    A designated arbiter reviews it

The arbiter reviews the dispute and decides between two outcomes: refund the original sender or release the payment to the original recipient.

  3. 03

    They never control the money

The arbiter never receives the payment and cannot redirect it to another wallet.
